Two doctoral schools at your service

To support you throughout the preparation of your doctorate, two doctoral schools are housed at the Université de Picardie Jules Verne:

  • Doctoral School of the Human and Social Sciences (EDSHS)
  • Doctoral School of Science, Technology and Health (EDSTS)

Doctoral schools are accredited by the French Ministry of Research and Higher Education. They are multi-disciplinary, federating activities relating to doctoral studies in the sciences and health, and bringing together the 44 recognized research units and teams of the A2U (Université de Picardie Jules Verne, Université d'Artois, Université du Littoral Côte d'Opale).

Doctoral school missions

  • welcome doctoral students and manage their studies
  • deliver training specifically designed for doctoral students in a coherent cycle of high-level doctoral studies
  • apply the thesis charter and all measures enabling doctoral students to defend their thesis in the best possible conditions
  • help doctoral students find employment
  • contribute to research leadership, the development and evolution of research themes, and collaboration between research teams
  • determine, in collaboration with the research teams, the recruitment policy for new doctoral students, as well as the priority profiles for research grant applications, and organize the granting process.
  • To register, you must hold a national master's degree or equivalent diploma (if you are a student holding only foreign diplomas, you must apply for validation of studies and prior learning).

To register/re-register, you need to connect to the application specifically dedicated to doctoral students at the Université de Picardie Jules Verne: ADUM.

Co-supervision

The procedure for registering as a cotutelle student is basically the same as for any other PhD candidate. You will be able to complete a thesis both at the Université de Picardie Jules Verne and in a foreign country.

As a doctoral student, you will be co-supervised by a thesis director in each country (in France and abroad).

Thesis funding

Doctoral contract
The doctoral contract at the Université de Picardie Jules Verne provides funding to doctoral students recruited by the director of the establishment for a 3-year period, on the recommendation of the doctoral school director.

Funding from the Hauts-de-France Region
Each year, the Hauts-de-France Region issues a call for regional projects, offering a contribution to the funding of theses within the framework of public/private partnerships or international co-tutelles.

Industrial Research Training Agreements (CIFRE)

The CIFRE scheme - Conventions Industrielles de Formation par la Recherche (Industrial Research Training Agreements), fully funded by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and administered by the ANRT (Association Nationale Recherche Technologie) - enables you to carry out your thesis within a research unit and a company. Your work will culminate in the presentation of a thesis in three years.
