The Biobehavioural Unit at
the National University of Ireland A biobehavioural unit was established at the National University of Ireland, Dublin, in August 1998. The primary function of this unit is to assess and treat children with developmental disabilities who exhibit aberrant behaviours and to develop support plans for their families. The service currently involves the disciplines of psychiatry, behaviour analysis, and special education. All services are provided on an outpatient basis and referrals are accepted from throughout the Republic of Ireland. A core component of this service involves the use of brief functional analysis assessments. These assessments are conducted in an interdisciplinary manner which allows behavioural, psychiatric, and educational interventions to be tailored to the function of the aberrant behaviour. The presentation will describe this assessment and treatment planning service. Additionally, preliminary evaluation results of assessment/treatment outcomes and consumer satisfaction will be presented. Keywords: developmental disabilities, brief functional analysis |
