The instructional equivalence
procedure Simon Dymond and Paul M. Smeets Anglia Polytechnic University and Leiden University, United Kingdom and The Netherlands The instructional equivalence procedure (Eikeseth, Rosales-Ruiz, Baer, Duarte1997; Smeets, Dymond, Barnes-Holmes, in press) involves establishing baseline conditional discriminations through written instructions and testing for the subsequent derivation of stimulus relations, in the absence of those instructions. Since no feedback is given at any stage, researchers employing the instructional equivalence procedure must rely upon subjects' generalised history of instruction- and rule-following in order to demonstrate derived stimulus relations. Research designed to further investigate this feature of the instructional equivalence procedure will be presented and the issues raised by the findings discussed.
