The Behavioral Pediatrics Clinic is an interdisciplinary outpatient clinic that serves children from 18 months to 19 years of age. Referral concerns include aggression, noncompliance, destruction, disruptive behaviors, self-injury, tantrums, sleep problems, and toileting difficulties. Most children referred to the clinic are developing within normal limits. The most common diagnoses include Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Disruptive Behavior Disorder, and/or general learning disorders. Clinic staff include a pediatrician, pediatric nurse practitioner, speech and hearing clinician, social worker, and behavior analysts (psychology). We will describe examples of behavioral assessments conducted as part of the clinical evaluation. Assessments include functional and antecedent analyses, concurrent operants (choice) assessments, and evaluations of skill versus motivation problems. Treatment is based on the assessment results and includes reinforcement-based treatment packages. Descriptions of typical treatments matched to assessments will be provided.
